About the book
We offer you to read the book Come, My gentle Ariel, written by Mira Mihelič, which is a translation of a juvenile story Pridi, mili moj Ariel. The main protagonist of this story for children is Marinka, dreamy, emotional, impulsive girl who has a rich imagination. She becomes valued among her friends for her wonderful ability of story-telling. In the story, in which we follow her childhood, we can recognize many autobiographical traits. We are convinced that the story will also take over young readers today. The book is meant for the English readers, as well as Slovene youth as an English reading matter. The author Mira Mihelič is one of the most recognized Slovene writers of the 20th century. An excellent writer was also respected and popular in international writing cricles, because for many years she was an active member of Slovene and international association of writers and also became vice-chairman of PEN in 1973. However, none of her works has ever been translated in English. At least in the field of juvenile literature we managed to change that with a translation of Come, My gentle Ariel. The translation is a work of Alasdair MacKinnon, a professor of literature from Cambridge, who was a lecturer in the department of Germanic studies of the University of Ljubljana in the 1960s.
