About the book
Slovenian tales of heroes and historical characters. The book describes Slovenian heroes from the folk tradition with special physical powers: Peter Klepec, Štempihar, Kralj Matjaž, Hudi Kljukec and Löl Kotlić, the Martin Krpan-alike from Resia. Besides these, the book depicts some peculiar village characters like Pavliha, various wrongdoers, etc., in short, characters that have due to their different kinds of deviation from the average stayed in people’s minds, standing out either because of their cunningness, craziness or something else. There are heroes (or, although rarely, heroines) with shaped, unique personalities who always have a first name and sometimes even a last name, and are placed in distinctive geographical surroundings. They are supposed to be real historical characters (Kralj Matjaž, Peter Klepec, ...) and in some cases, we have actual, solid historical sources supporting this (e.g. Attila, ...). The accompanying study is written by Zmago Šmitek and the quality illustrations done by Veno Dolenc. The book is due to its professional selection of the tales, the accompanying text and the explanation of the less familiar words even suitable for pupils as school reading material for learning about folk literature. The book Moč ti je dana subtitled Slovenske pripovedi o junakih in zgodovinskih osebnostih is the sixth title in the collection Zakladnica slovenskih pripovedi published in cooperation with the Institute of Slovenian Ethnology SRC SASA.
