About the book
A book that takes you through the world of logic step by step. The author addresses the reader directly which is why this handbook is so different from other, tedious textbooks. We warmly recommend it to all logic lovers and those who are professionally interested in it: math teachers in grammar schools and other secondary schools, math students and postgraduate students with math classes on their curriculum (geodesists, civil engineers ...), participants on logic competitions and their mentors – thus primary school math teachers as well. From the book: Fuzzy logic does not only have theoretical-philosophical meaning, but is also useful, rational and economically justified in the development of modern systems. In the last decade, it has proven to be extremely useful in the technological-technical, traffic, economic, biomedicine, ecological and other sciences. Systems working on the basis of fuzzy logic are called intelligent systems, because their functions work based on logical conclusions, memory and learning. This textbook presents the basics of such intelligent system operation and is above all meant for the young and their teachers in secondary school and faculties. It is also appropriate for creators of intelligent systems. The real-time fuzzy logic simulation is shown by means of a computing environment called MATLAB that can be easily and more or less inexpensively installed on any average school computer. This textbook is a result of the desire to encourage pupils and students to be more creative and innovative, to increase their subjective advancement, responsibility and especially logical thinking. All of these are necessary virtues of the future experts and their promotion of the performance of our economic potentials in the EU. Jernej Virant is a full university professor who has been active in the pedagogical and research work in the field of computer logic (binary, fuzzy, multiple-valued and probability logic) for 40 years. He has introduced a series of computer science classes at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science Ljubljana. In the scope of these classes he has written or republished over 40 technical books and textbooks. He has taken part in more than 50 projects ordered by the Ministry of Science, Iskra Kranj, Gorenje Velenje and other companies. He was in charge of the laboratory for computer structures and systems, first at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and later at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science Ljubljana. During the last fifteen years of active work at the faculty and in cooperation with his co-workers, he has published a series of science magazine articles, particularly in the field of fuzzy memory (fuzzy memory cells), fuzzy time, fuzzy automata and fuzzy system planning. Related to these are his monograph and individual chapters published by Kluwer Academic Press and Kluwer Academic Publishers. He is an honorary professor of the University of Ljubljana and an IEEE Life Member. He still actively follows the work in the laboratory for computer structures and systems that is among other things systematically directed toward the design of wireless and computer-linked systems.
