About the book
The Scottish film Mountain Tourism and Mountain Environment Protection deals with the relationship between the two increasingly important geographical phenomena, namely mountain tourism and protection of the mountain environment. For an illustration of these, two mountain ranges are compared: the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes and the Central Tian Shan mountain range in Kyrgyzstan. The film brings the issues of mountain environment protection closer to us in a modern way and encourages us to reflect on them. It enables teachers to prepare simple, but quality class preparations on the subject of tourism and the protection of the mountain environment, and encourages them to treat these subjects more frequently and in a more interesting way. The most important aspects considered during the making of the film were the aims defined in the school curriculum.
From the film:
physical geography: the formation, structure and surface of the Earth;
social geography: the inhabitants, tourism;
regional geography: Asia, Latin America;
mountain environment protection: the influence of tourism on the environment.
We live in an increasingly faster-moving, globally connected information society. The growing knowledge and new technologies make it possible for us to understand the world around us better. Nonetheless, people still rather indulge in thinking about making their own lives better and easier instead of taking into consideration other people and our environment as well.
